Alabama 103, No. 23 Georgia Tech 101 OT

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Niesa Johnson drove the length of the court for a game-winning layup with 1.8 seconds left in overtime as Alabama stunned No. 23 Georgia Tech 103-101 in the first round of the Hawk Classic Tuesday night.

Johnson, a sophomore, scored a game-high 28 points with a career-high 13 assists, and hit 4 of Alabama’s 12 tournament record 3-pointers.

Trailing 56-41 at halftime, Georgia Tech (5-1) went on a 13-0 run and took a 61-60 lead with 12:01 remaining on Yvonne Wilson’s 11-foot jump shot. Georgia Tech later went on an 11-0 run to go up 83-72 with 5:05 remaining on Lara Kauffman’s layup.

Alabama answered with a 21-8 run, and took a 93-91 lead with 37 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Madonna Thompson.

Selena Baldwin, who led Georgia Tech with 26 points, tied the score at 93 with a steal and a layup with 13 seconds left in regulation.

Alabama (4-3) will face the St. Joseph’s Hawks for the championship. St. Joe’s was a 96-51 winner over Fordham in the other first-round game.
