Plan for replacement bridge in Winooski-Burlington area
WINOOSKI, Vt. (AP) — Experts say a bridge that links downtown Winooski with Burlington is within a decade of needing major repairs or outright replacement.
The Chittenden County Regional Planning Authority released a preliminary study this week, highlighting that repairs or replacement would cause substantial disruption to local traffic. The Burlington Free Press reports no timeline or price exists for the project.
About two dozen residents from both sides of the river gathered Tuesday night at University of Vermont Medical Center for an informal update on the plan, and to pose questions and air concerns.
The current bridge was erected in 1928 a year after its predecessor was destroyed in the flooding of November 1927.
