ISJ police reporting

August 2, 2018

Why is the police beat so important to the publishers of this newspaper? Just because the police department sends you a free picture and details of crimes doesn’t mean it is what people really want to read or that it is headline news.

I’ve recently visited large cities in other states, including Las Vegas, and actually looked hard to see any stories about crimes. I find it hard to believe that Pocatello has a larger crime incidence than Vegas. In the paper I read in Vegas, there were a lot of small “update” types of stories about national news, which was convenient and interesting. No offense to the police; I really appreciate their work. But if this police reporting continues as priority No. 1, I think the paper should change its name to “The Idaho State Police Journal.”
