Former Utah mayor named head of Freedom Festival foundation
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A former Utah city mayor has been named the executive director of America’s Freedom Festival at Provo.
The Daily Herald reports that former Orem Mayor Jim Evans will take over the private, nonprofit foundation in northern Utah that organizes educational programs and annual community events.
The newspaper reports that Evans is already the organization’s president and will take over the executive director role from Paul Warner, who is retiring.
Evans says he plans to retire this spring as chief operating officer and senior vice president of Xactware.
The foundation’s website describes it as promoting “traditional American values of God, family, freedom, and country.”
The newspaper reports that the organization has faced criticism from supporters of the LGBTQ community for not offering opportunities to participate in public events.
