Barrios wins 7th straight by knockout

February 10, 2019

San Antonio super lightweight Mario Barrios remained undefeated with a fourth-round knockout of Mexico’s Richard Zamora (19-3, 12 KOs) on Saturday night in Carson, California.

For Barrios (23-0, 15 KOs), it was his seventh straight win by knockout. After a barrage of combinations that staggered Zamora, referee Ray Corona called a halt to the bout at 2 minutes, 16 seconds of the fourth.

“Everything we worked on in training camp worked tonight,” said Barrios, the No. 1 contender at 140 pounds by the WBA. “I’m ready for the next step, but it’s up to my management team.”

Barrios landed 106 of 282 punches - including 77 of 130 power shots - to just 27 of 137 total punches for Zamora.
