Customs agent fires at burglary suspect outside Florida home
COOPER CITY, Fla. (AP) — A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer chased away a burglary suspect outside her South Florida home and shot back at him when he fired at her.
Broward Sheriff’s officials said in a news release that the incident happened early Thursday outside the agent’s home in Cooper City, which is a suburb of Fort Lauderdale. No one was injured in the shooting.
Customs and Border Patrol spokesman Michael Silva tells the Sun Sentinel the agent is assigned to Miami International Airport.
The 17-year-old suspect was arrested a short time later and faces charges of felony armed burglary and aggravated assault with a gun.
It’s not known whether the agent could face charges. Silva says she stayed home Thursday and will return to work “when she is ready.”
