Patricia Mathews, 77, of Chicago, passed away July 23, 2018, at Regency Generation Medical Center in Niles.
She was born Aug. 26, 1940, in Kankakee, the daughter of Edward T. and Rosemary Mathews.
Patricia attended St. Patrick Grade School and St. Patrick Central High School. She received her nursing training at Little Company Hospital in Evergreen Park. Patricia continued her education to receive both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. She worked as a nurse in a variety of medical settings throughout her career.
Surviving are her sons, Matthew and Andrew Laffey, both of Chicago; brothers, Terry (Ana), of St. Paul, Minn., and Jim (Janet), of Austin, Texas; and sister, Burma (Rick Braun), of Kankakee.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Anne; and brother, Michael.
The family said, “Patricia’s legacy to her sons is her love of animals and her desire to help abandoned and abused cats and dogs through adoption.”
No visitation is planned.
