HUNTINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ Former Vice President Dan Quayle will formally announce his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination at a political rally next week at his hometown high school, his campaign committee announced Wednesday.

Quayle, 52, will be joined on stage at Huntington North High School, where he graduated in 1965, by his wife, Marilyn, and numerous state and national elected officials, his campaign said.

Quayle was George Bush's vice president and running mate in 1988 and 1992. He moved from Indiana to Arizona in 1996. He formed an exploratory committee in February to begin raising campaign funds.
