NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices have started higher on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones industrial average is ahead 22 points. Gainers outnumber losers by about 4-3 on the New York Stock Exchange.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is up ten points and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index has added one point.

Wall Street will have to shake off its recent wariness about corporate earnings in order to gain any ground today.

The market closed mostly lower yesterday amid rumors that Cisco Systems might warn about results.

But Cisco does have its defenders, with two brokerages issuing positive comments about the company this morning.

Also helping the outlook: Sears has boosted its guidance for the year.

Many investors are standing by for the quarterly earnings reporting period, with a long list of corporations due to release first-quarter results tomorrow. Yahoo is due with numbers after today’s closing bell on Wall Street.
