Akron Youth Orchestras to perform ‘side-by-side’ concert

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Youth Orchestras are scheduled to perform a “side-by-side” concert at 3 p.m. on March 10 at the Medina Performing Arts Center, 851 Weymouth Road.

The Akron Youth Philharmonic, under the direction of Music Director Douglas Bayda, will open the concert with Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances” and Ravel’s “The Enchanted Garden.”

The Akron Youth Symphony, under the direction of Music Director Eric Benjamin, will follow with Rossini’s “Overture to the Barber of Seville” and selections from Schubert’s Symphony No. 8.

Then, musicians from both orchestras will come together to perform Gliere’s “Russian Sailors’ Dance” from his ballet “The Red Poppy,” and “Symphonic Dances” from “Fiddler on the Roof.”

The Akron Symphony Guild will host a complimentary reception following the concert.

Tickets are $10 and free for children ages 10 and younger. To purchase tickets, visit akronsymphony.org or call the Akron Symphony box office at 330-535-8131. Tickets can also be purchased at the door starting one hour before the concert. Tickets purchased the week of the concert can be picked up at the will call table on the day of the concert.
