KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a man accused of shooting and wounding two police officers in Tennessee died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Kingsport Times-News reports that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Kingsport Police Department said Monday that preliminary autopsy results indicate 58-year-old Hugh Kyle Hurd committed suicide Nov. 9.

Kingsport police say one of the patrol officers shot was struck by two shotgun blasts and has undergone two surgeries, remaining hospitalized. The other officer was treated and released the same evening.

Officials say police went to Hurd's home following a complaint that he was threatening to harm himself and others. Hurd barricaded himself in the home for more than two hours before exiting, firing at officers and retreating back inside. A team of officers later found his body.
