Agenda: BISD calls special meeting to suspend Zendejas?

January 9, 2019

Is Brownsville Superintendent Esperanza Zendejas on her way out?

The BISD Board of Trustees has called a special board meeting for 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The agenda for the closed door meeting reads:

A. Discussion and consideration regarding board counsel’s document review on potential and threatened litigation.

B. Discussion and consideration on separation, administrative leave or suspension of Superintendent

The agenda says the board will take action on agenda items discussed in Executive Session.

Zendejas was hired as the BISD superintendent in June 2015. She served as the district’s interim superintendent since Feb. 16, 2015 when she replaced Carl Montoya in BISD’s top position.

In October, the board voted 4-3 to extend Zendejas’ contract through June 30, 2021. The extension left her salary at $305,000.
