Fawcett’s Ex-Boyfriend Convicted

August 18, 1998

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) _ Farrah Fawcett’s ex-boyfriend was convicted Tuesday of beating the actress during a fight in which he slammed her head to the ground and choked her.

The jury of seven women and five men found James Orr guilty on one count of misdemeanor battery. Orr was acquitted of a second battery charge involving an earlier altercation.

He faces up to a year in jail when sentenced in October.

Orr was charged with beating the former ``Charlie’s Angels″ star in his driveway Jan. 28 in a fight that followed an argument at a restaurant. Miss Fawcett admitted smashing his windows with a baseball bat and attacking him with a bar stool.

The defense claimed Orr, 44, was trying to prevent the 51-year-old actress from further damaging his home, but the prosecution claimed he struck in retaliation.

Orr, a writer, director and producer whose credits include ``Three Men and a Baby,″ testified during trial that the couple began arguing after the Fawcett found an envelope in the trash that contained two books mailed by Orr’s ex-girlfriend.
