Tour The City’s Architectural Gems
Tony Brooks of the Wilkes-Barré Preservation Society will host his 17th annual spring architectural walking tour of downtown Wilkes-Barre at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18. Participants will meet inside St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 35 S. Franklin St. The tour will explore the mansions and social history of three centuries in one square mile of downtown Wilkes-Barre, from simple Connecticut Yankee to the Victorian grandeur of the Gilded Age to streamline Modernism. Cost is $10 per person. Children are free. Proceeds benefit the restoration of the Zebulon Butler House. Reservations are not necessary but are encouraged by calling 570-793-3631. Free parking is available next door to the church across from Boscov’s.
