VAREL, Germany (AP) _ ``Don’t buy from Jews″ and other neo-Nazi slogans sprayed on a wall at a northern German military base have prompted an investigation, authorities said Tuesday.
Military spokesman Edgar Guenter confirmed the investigation following a report in the Oldenburg-based newspaper Nordwest Zeitung. The Friesland base in Varel also was investigated last year for neo-Nazi activity.
A string of revelations over the past several months about neo-Nazi incidents in the military led to a parliamentary probe and concern over education of new soldiers in Germany, where military service is compulsory.
The highest-profile incidents have involved a homemade video showing soldiers talking about killing Jews, and a convicted neo-Nazi terrorist’s speech at a military academy.
