Pageant, art and wine fest, heritage fest on tap for Ironton aLive event

Ironton aLive is sponsoring the inaugural Miss Ironton Area pageant at Ro-Na Theater in Ironton on Saturday, Sept. 22.

IRONTON — Ironton aLive is sponsoring several events in the coming weeks, from a Miss Ironton Area pageant this weekend, to the 4th annual Ohio River and Art Festival later this month to the Ironton Heritage Festival next month.

The Ohio River Art and Wine Festival is scheduled Sept. 29 at the Blue Bridge Cafe and the adjacent Transit Center on South 2nd Street across the street from the Ironton Farmers Market. The festival runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, according to Sam Heighton, executive director of Ironton aLive.

Buckeye Lake Winery will be the featured winery at the festival, Heighton said. The Merry Family Winery and the Terra Cotta Winery also will have samples, he said.

This year the festival will have an art component with several local artists selling their art work, Heighton said. “This event is growing every year,” he said.

Tickets for the wine festival are $30 each. It overs six sample wine pours and finger foods including cheeses, fruit and crackers. Tickets are on sale at the Blue Bridge Cafe, formerly the Transit Cafe, and at Unger’s Shoes. Kelly’s Bridge Band will play live music during the event.

This weekend Ironton aLive is sponsoring the inaugural Miss Ironton Area pageant. There are several categories for both boys and girls between the ages of six months to six years. There also will be several categories for girls between the ages of seven and 15. The queen’s pageant is for females from the ages of 16 to 21.

The contest for younger children is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ro-Na. The queen’s pageant is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Ro-Na. The pageant is open to Lawrence and Scioto county residents, Boyd and Greenup county residents and Cabell County residents.

The Ironton Heritage Festival is set for Oct 13 in downtown Ironton. It includes a car show and craft vendors. The Ironton High School Varsity Singers are scheduled to perform. The Ironton Farmers market also will be open that day. The farmers market is open at 7 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
