Pimp My Pig takes top honors at Darlington Raceway’s Speed and Feed
DARLINGTON, S.C. — Dean Price’s Pimp my Pig walked away with top barbecue honors on Saturday for the second year running in Darlington Raceway’s annual Speed & Feed BBQ Cook-off and Car Show.
This year’s event was attended by a couple of thousand people who braved the wind to admire several hundred cars on display and sample award-winning barbecue served up by the teams who were competing for both top professional honors and a people’s choice award which, this year, was won by Kamese McDaniel’s Steel Smoking Smokerz.
Price took home a $2,000 award and will again be honored during prerace ceremonies for the NASCAR XFINITY Series Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 race on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019. McDaniel earned $200.
Other winners in the contest barbecue, which was sanctioned by South Carolina BBQ Association, were Monkey Bottom Boys who won second place; Backwoods Bar-B-Que in third place; Smoke Central in fourth place and Tailgater Hater in fifth place.
In the ribs competition, CBT Que took top honors followed by Smoke Central, Smoke Break BBQ, Can’t Quit Smokin’ Q and Tailgater Hater.
Mike Sexton won honors for his best savory dish, Broccoli Casserole, while George Ray won honors for best dessert with his Oreo Cheesecake.
This year’s event, sponsored by Raldex, was the second in two days at the Track Too Tough to Tame. On Friday night the Darlington Raceway 5K Presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors ran under the lights.
