MU golf 15th in tourney
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Marshall University men’s golf moved up one place in Sunday’s final round and finished 15th among 16 teams in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate at The Club at Irish Creek.
Marshall had an improvement of 22 strokes from the second round to the final round.
“It was really nice to see them bounce back today/′ Marshall head coach Matt Grobe said in a HerdZone.com release. “The second round was tough to come back from, but they responded well and played hard.”
UNC Greensboro distanced itself from the field with a score of 18-under-par 834 that was eight shots ahead of runner-up Ohio State. Bryce Hendrix of the UNCG Spartans was the individual leader at 20-under 193 with rounds of 66,65 and 62.
Marshall’s 891 team score was led by Cameron Root shooting 73, 77 and 71 for 221. Other Thundering Herd golfers were Kyle Mitchell (72-79-71 — 222), Thomas Frazier (73-74-77 — 224), Ben Roeder (79-78-73 — 230) and Will Straub (73-81-77 — 231).
Next on the Herd schedule is the Conference USA tournament, April 22-25, in Texarkana, Arkansas.
