Catch a boozeless buzz at Estate Coffee Co.
The first day of fall is Sept. 22, but let’s face it y’all: it’s still plenty hot here in San Antonio. Fortunately, that means you have at least one more week to catch the summery lineup of coffee-based cocktails at Estate Coffee Co.
To be clear, these sippers deliver a buzz based exclusively on caffeine, with nary a drop of alcohol to be found. But they’re composed with the same kind of obsessive rigor we’ve come to expect from bartenders.
That translates to drinks like an Espresso Old-Fashioned made with an inky dark shot of espresso, a splash of bitters and bourbon barrel-smoked simple syrup finished with an orange peel and cherry. Or the Coffee Sangria, which swaps wine for a bright acidic brew infused with red and green apples, orange, raspberry and pineapple.
I’m particularly fond of two extra tangy drinks: The Dark and Stormy, made from Fever Tree Ginger Beer, a double shot of espresso, lime simple syrup and a lime wedge; and the Cold Brew Shandy, which mixes cold brew coffee with an equal part of lemonade from the San Antonio-based The Lemonade Co., a splash of Topo Chico and a lemon wedge.
