WINFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - Marshall University football player Christopher Parker was sentenced to five years’ probation Wednesday for a car crash that killed his girlfriend and her two sisters.

Putnam County Circuit Judge Clarence Watt also revoked Parker’s driver’s license until he completes a driver safety class.

Parker, 19, pleaded guilty last month to one count of involuntary manslaughter in the March 1991 crash, which occurred as he drove home to Lynchburg, Va., following a visit to Marshall. Two other counts were dropped.

Police said Parker lost control of his car while trying to pass another car on the Interstate 64 bridge in Nitro. The car careened off a concrete abutment and exploded.

Killed were Sharlene Yuille, 20, and her sisters Consuela, 17, and Tammy, 19, all of Lynchburg.

Parker, a freshman running back, was injured in the accident. He was redshirted for the 1991 season.
