Georgia detention officer shot; stepdaughter in custody

June 13, 2019

GRIFFIN, Ga. (AP) — A Spalding County Sheriff’s Office detention officer is recovering after being shot in the head.

The sheriff’s office says 34-year-old Amanda Moore was shot Wednesday afternoon and was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, where she was listed as stable.

Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Dwayne Jones says Moore’s 16-year-old stepdaughter is in custody but charges against her have yet to be filed. He says investigators are conferring with the district attorney’s office regarding charges. The teen’s name has not been released.

Sheriff Darrell Dix says preliminary indications are that the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute between Moore and the girl.

Moore has served as a detention officer for a year. Her father, Larry Martin, is a sergeant in the sheriff’s office.
