This Week’s Scheduled Roadwork

March 11, 2019

The state Department of Transportation announced the following upcoming roadwork projects in Luzerne County:

Short term projects:

• On Interstate 81 in Luzerne County from Exit 164 (Nanticoke) to Exit 180 (Moosic) both north and southbound guiderail crews will be mobilizing for emergency crash damage repair starting Wednesday through Thursday, March 21. The work will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day.

• State Route 4024 in Fairmount was closed with a detour last Monday and will remain closed until the end of the summer for a bridge deck repair.

• State Route 92 in Exeter remains closed due to the water main break under the road. A recent inspection has shown that the pipe that carries the creek under the road has sustained damage due to the water main break and collapse of the road. As a result State Route 92 will be closed for a few weeks.

Long term projects:

• State Route 2045, South Main Road, is closed in Wright Twp. due to an emergency bridge repair. The project will include replacing a pipe that has deteriorated underneath and has left the bridge unsafe. The tentative completion date for this project is late September 2019. The detour is Nuangola Road to Church Road and back to South Main Road.

• North Cross Valley Expressway project: Phase two of the project will begin soon. The off ramp bridge to River Street is scheduled to be closed early spring 2019 through summer of 2020. The off ramp bridge deck and parapets will be removed and replaced. The beams and girders will be inspected and painted. A signed detour will be in place for the duration of the off ramp construction. The signed River Street detour will follow the North Cross Valley Expressway south (SR 309 south) to Wilkes-Barre Boulevard at Exit 2 where temporary signals have been installed.

• South Valley Parkway project: The Prospect Street roundabout is being re-engineered due to unforeseen conditions. The Department did not want to inconvenience the public, so the area was opened up. Once the re-engineering is completed, construction of Prospect Street will resume. The Prospect Street roundabout will be opened during winter months, and closed again in late spring 2019 for completion. This is required due to weather restrictions for bituminous paving of the roundabout. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

All work depends on weather conditions.
