Firefighters recover body of boy in house fire

HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire’s state fire marshal says the body of a child has been recovered from a house fire in Hampton.

Paul Parisi said the remains of the boy were recovered Wednesday morning. He said there were eight people in the home, three adults and five children. Seven people had escaped by the time firefighters arrived. He said the house was in flames and several attempts were made to rescue the child, but crews were unable get inside.

Seacoastonline.com reports police said the boy was 7. It also reported the Thorwald Avenue home housed an organization called the Guinea Pig Sanctuary, where the occupants took in more than 30 guinea pigs and sought to put them up for adoption.

Firefighters said the fire was reported about 12:40 a.m.
