GRIZZLIES AND WOLVES

BILLINGS, Mont. — Galvanized by court rulings protecting grizzly bears and gray wolves, Congressional Republicans on Wednesday launched a push for broad changes to the Endangered Species Act despite strong objections from Democrats and wildlife advocates who called the effort a “wildlife extinction package.” Republicans began with a morning vote in the House Natural Resource Committee to strip protections from wolves across the contiguous U.S. By Matthew Brown. ANIMAL SHELTER-PEPPER SPRAY — Police in Wyoming say three animal shelter officials, including its director, should be charged with cruelty to animals in the pepper-spraying of a dog that wasn’t threatening anyone. Cheyenne police said Wednesday in a news release that employee Ryan Johnson held the 70-pound, pit bull mix while employee Eric Smale pepper-sprayed it under the direction of director Bob Fecht, a former Cheyenne police chief and state legislator.

ELECTION 2018-CONGRESS-GOSAR-WYOMING— The University of Wyoming is looking into whether a campaign ad for an Arizona congressional candidate violated the school’s filming policy.

COMMISSIONER-DRUNKEN DRIVING — A longtime Wyoming county commissioner is accused of driving while drunk.
