4 family-friendly events to attend this weekend

May 18, 2019

It’s been a rough last week for all, dealing with the wake of the Mother’s Day weekend’s storms. But if you are in need of an activity to unwind, here are five to choose from — all of which take place in the Lake Houston area.

Taste of the Groves

Between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Ashlar Development and The Groves community will host a food-and-music event to celebrate summer at 17317 Cathedral Pines Drive in Humble.

The event will be in The Groves’ Lifestyle Center.

“This family-friendly event will include food trucks, bites and beverages from local restaurants and breweries, music, a tiny tot area for the little ones, a bounce house, an obstacle course, and more,” read the event’s description in a press release.

Vendors that will be at the event include Ingenious Brewing Company, Toddler Towns and six food trucks.

Cars & Coffee

From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, come to Generation Park for a dazzling car show featuring classics, exotics and more. The event’s sponsor, Chick-fil-A Summerwood, will have coffee and chicken biscuits ready for purchase on-site.

If you have a car to show, drive to the Redemption Square parking garage — 707 Redemption Square Road — at around 8 a.m. and follow the signs.

The garage is also where attendees should go to park their cars.

Vintage & Antique Show

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, the Humble Market will host “an old tyme gathering of people selling goods of all kinds.” The market’s address is 2803 FM 1960 Road E in Humble.

The market will open in any weather condition. Among the many goods featured are figurines, blankets, furniture, collectables, and memorabilia.

The event is also free-to-attend and is kid and pet-friendly. There will be another session on Sunday, also from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visit Humble Market on Facebook (HumbleMarket) for additional information and upcoming events.

Gamer’s Flea Market

A different kind of market where the items listed are all games-related. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Ettin Games and Hobbies will be where you can trade, sell and buy board games, miniatures, card games and more.

The business’ address is 241 FM 1960 Bypass Road E in Humble.

“How it works: Tables are free — first come, first served. Trade as much as you want with no restrictions. If you sell something to someone, then they buy you store credit in the amount of the sale rather than paying you directly,” the event description on Facebook read.

The store also recommended sellers and buyers to not leave around noon — or the “Lunchtime Lull,” as they called it — as they might miss out.
