Beatrice man sentenced on drug charges

August 2, 2018

A Beatrice man will spend three years on probation for a drug charge.

Austin J. Meyn, 21, was sentenced Wednesday in Gage County District Court to probation for attempted distribution of a controlled substance.

The charge was reduced from a distribution charge, a class 2 felony, as part of an agreement. Additional charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and two charges of possession of a controlled substance were previously dismissed.

On Jan. 6, a Beatrice police officer conducted a traffic stop on a Pontiac with a headlight out. Court documents state the vehicle smelled like marijuana.

The arrest warrant stated that Meyn, a passenger in the vehicle, appeared nervous and the officer found parts of marijuana plants in the vehicle during a search.

Meyn declined to let the officer search a backpack he claimed as his own.

The bag was seized and a warrant was obtained for it. Multiple pill bottles were recovered from the backpack, and a blue pill bottle that contained a white powdery substance.

A variety of other drug-related items were recovered from the bag.
