Firecracker at Lewinsky Dad’s Home

September 18, 1998

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A firecracker stuffed into a mail slot at the home of Monica Lewinsky’s father exploded in what police on Thursday called a prank. No one was hurt.

Neither Ms. Lewinsky, her father nor her stepmother were home when the firecracker exploded sometime Wednesday, Officer Charlotte Broughton said. Barbara Lewinsky, the former White House intern’s stepmother, ``noticed burn marks on the floor today,″ the officer said.

The Police Department was notified at 11:05 a.m. and the bomb squad was dispatched.

The Lewinskys returned home Wednesday night ``but it wasn’t until this morning they discovered the debris″ and minor power burns to the wooden living room floor, Sgt. Willie Guerrero told reporters outside the Brentwood home 10 miles west of downtown.

The firecracker was put through a mail slot just to the right of the home’s front door, police Detective Joseph Aparicio said.
