HENDERSON, Nev./WINONA — Elizabeth Brown, 80, of Henderson, formerly of Winona, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018, from a short battle with ovarian cancer.

Liz was a 1959 graduate of Gustavus Aldolphus College and earned a master’s of education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 1992. Liz moved to Las Vegas in 1984, eventually settling in Henderson, Nev., and retired from teaching in 2000. Elizabeth was an active participant in Nevada State Education Association throughout her career and the Nevada Retired Teachers Association. In 2014, Liz was the NSEA Retired Educator Award recipient.

Elizabeth cherished her home ownership at Sun City MacDonald Ranch Community, serving and actively participating in a plethora of clubs, committees and social events, to also serving on the board and other leadership roles. Liz extended her friendships and memories beyond her avocation in Red Hats, the theatre, travel and Community Lutheran Church.

Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly and her husband, David Schoenecker of Minneapolis; and Kirstin and her husband, David Erwin, of New Orleans; her five grandchildren, Morgan and Murphy Schoenecker and Mitchell, McKenzie and Matthew Erwin; her brother, John Sandquist and his wife, Kathryn; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 27, at Community Lutheran Church, located at 3720 E. Tropicana, Las Vegas, Nev., 89121. Liz will be remembered as a wonderful, kind and loving mom, grandmother, friend, teacher and community leader. Liz will be greatly missed in her MacDonald Ranch community and by everyone who knew her.
