Lincoln planning way ahead for 2 more fire stations
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln officials already are planning for two more new fire stations as work continues on four others.
The plans call one to be built in south Lincoln in 2022 and one to be built in 2025 on the east side of Lincoln.
Fire Chief Michael Despain told the Lincoln Journal Star his department is “trying to play chess many moves ahead.”
Despain says the city can predict its population growth and buy land well in advance, before an area is heavily developed. Doing so helps secure a lower purchase price and save taxpayer money.
Public Safety Director Tom Casady says that even if the city buys land for the stations, the planning must adapt when projected city growth and actual development differ.
