Motorcycle passenger hurt in DeKalb crash

September 4, 2018

An Auburn woman was hospitalized Monday complaining of pain and road rash following a crash in the 5700 block of County Road 427 in DeKalb County.

At 3:41 p.m., a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Michael Franze, 63, of Houston was facing south on County Road 427, attempting to turn left onto a private drive. Franze told police he did not see a motorcycle driven by Austin Wood, 25, of Auburn approaching in the northbound lane.

Police say Franze turned in front of Wood’s motorcycle, causing him to crash into the rear passenger side bumper and quarter panel of the truck.

The motorcycle slid about 150 feet to the northwest into the southbound lane. Wood and his passenger, Alexandria Wood, 28, of Auburn were trapped under the motorcycle until Wood was able to extract himself and remove Alexandria Wood.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by DeKalb EMS and the Jackson Township Fire Department.
