Sue Donahue: Respecting Havasu’s history
In a city as young as Lake Havasu City, it is difficult to establish anything as a tradition. The city has recently named several streets after citizens that have contributed to the City in various ways.
I recently heard discussions that there is an attempt to rename the football field at the high school from Lee Barnes stadium. I would ask that you remember the man for which this field was named.
Lee Barnes was one of the first teachers at the school and was the first coach of the school. He served this community in many capacities including as a city councilman.
I don’t disagree that the current coach has endeared himself to his students and the school. I’m concerned that the history as short as it may be, will be lost forever just as the history that is being lost across our nation.
Please don’t change the name of this stadium.
