Breaking: DeKalb woman in critical condition after head-on-crash
SYCAMORE – A 27-year-old DeKalb woman is in critical condition after a head-on crash Monday evening on state Route 64 near Larson Road, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
The release says Mason Valentin, 18, of the 700 block of Cedar Avenue in Elgin, was westbound just after 6 p.m. on Route 64 when his Ford Ranger crossed the centerline and crashed into a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Kaylie Morales, of the 800 block of Lewis Street, who had a 4-year-old child in the car with her. The Ranger came to rest on the north shoulder, and the Lancer spun into the south ditch.
Morales was extricated from her vehicle and flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, while the child and Valentin were both taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the release says, according to the release; it adds that Morales is in critical condition.
Both Morales and Valentin were wearing their seat belts, and Valentin was cited for improper lane usage, according to the release.
