ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ A passenger bus transporting soccer fans crashed into a truck then fell into a ditch today, killing seven people and injuring 26 others, police said.

Police said the bus driver had allowed a 19-year-old soldier traveling on the bus to drive while he took a rest.

The soldier, who did not have a driving license, was apparently speeding when he lost control of the double-decker bus and swerved into oncoming traffic, crashing into a truck and then falling into a the 20-foot-deep ditch before dawn today, police said.

The soldier was killed, while the bus driver was injured. Three of the 26 injured were undergoing surgery and were listed in serious condition, authorities said.

A total of 77 passengers, fans of the PAOK Thessaloniki soccer team, were traveling on the bus, heading back to Thessaloniki after a match against Panathinaikos Athens in the capital. They were among 4,000 PAOK supporters who attended the match, which ended 1-1.
