The Fort Wayne Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Response Team was still working this afternoon to contain a 50-gallon leak of sodium hydroxide into a small creek adjacent to Wayne Chemical on Homestead Road.
Adam O’Connor, fire department spokesman, said a call about the leak came in around 11 a.m. today.
Bernie Beier, director of Allen County Homeland Security, was also at the scene.
O’Connor said sodium hydroxide is a corrosive agent. Crews were working to dam up the creek, he added.
