WRESTLING: Knights swept in last meet before sectionals
The Lake Havasu wrestling team took just six wrestlers to Buckeye Youngker for its final meet of the regular season, protecting some of its top wrestlers who are dealing with nagging illnesses and injuries as the Knights prepare for this weekend’s Division III, Section III tournament.
The Knights were swept in three duals with Youngker, Peoria and Phoenix Arcadia, giving up a host of points by virtue of its small roster at the meet.
Havasu was making sure to secure some of its top wrestlers were in the best possible condition for Saturday’s sectional meet, which will determine entrants to the state meet. The top four placers on Saturday will advance to the tournament to be held on Feb. 8-9 in Prescott Valley.
The Knights are shooting to get up to nine entrants at the state meet. Wrestling begins Saturday morning at Youngker. Havasu has four wrestlers ranked among the top Division III in their weight class.
