LOS ANGELES: Denver 39-21.
Undated (AP) _ ″It was a great team effort,″ Clippers coach Gene Shue said. ″Denver has unbelievable firepower. Before we knew it, they were back in the ballgame.
″With Charles Smith back in the lineup I can go to a rotation,″ Shue said, tuning his attention to his own team. ″He wasn’t sharp tonight, but there is no real drop off if I play Manning and Norman, Manning and Smith or Smith and Norman.″
″We have to come out and play intensely right from the beginning,″ Manning said. ″Tonight we came out and got right on them. We needed this win tonight.″
″Everyone comes from a college program that runs,″ Williams said. ″When you play a team like Denver that passes and shoots, you can get a lot going when you’re running.″
″The play that we designed early in the game was the one that beat us,″ Nuggets coach Doug Moe said. ″It was the no-effort play. What happened at the end of the game really didn’t matter. We missed a couple of foul shots and after that happens, you can see the results.″
″We just didn’t play well tonight,″ Moe added. ″But the Clippers outplayed us. They did a good job and they deserved the win.″
″They were playing harder than we were,″ Davis said. ″But they turned the ball over a lot and let us back in the game.″
Los Angeles turned the ball over 30 time.
″We were pretty flat in the first half,″ English said. ″There were chances for us to overtake them and win the game and put it out of reach, but they hung in there.″
