Montage Mountain Traffic Issues Affected Friday Concertgoers

August 20, 2018

MOOSIC — Concertgoers venturing up Montage Mountain for a Breaking Benjamin and Five Finger Death Punch show Friday battled traffic that backed up onto Davis Street and Interstate 81, causing delays and frustration. Moosic Police Chief Rick Janesko attributed the traffic issues to a “perfect storm” of circumstances, from a high volume of commuters driving home from work to a lightning storm temporarily suspending parking operations at the concert venue. Some “very unhappy” music fans, tired of waiting in traffic, turned around and came back down the mountain without seeing the show, he said. Concertgoers seeking alternate routes to the venue also caused traffic congestion in parts of Moosic, Avoca and Old Forge, Janesko said, noting Friday’s concert was “probably the largest show of the year” in attendance. “Every artery in and through Moosic was really at a dead standstill,” borough fire Chief Chuck Molinaro said. Attempts to reach officials with Live Nation, which operates the Pavilion at Montage Mountain, were unsuccessful Monday. — JEFF HORVATH
