Noveroske named DAC MVP, LP’s Otts recognized

Michigan City senior Hannah Noveroske has been named the All-Duneland Athletic Conference Girls Basketball MVP. Noveroske is joined on the All-DAC team by La Porte senior Riley Ott and sophomore sister Ryin Ott. The remainder of the squad is: Marney Sisson, Chesterton; Jessica Carrothers, Ellie VanDeel, Abby Stoddard, Crown Point; Sara Zabrecky, Lake Central; Torri Miller, Merrillville; and Kristen Cravens, Portage.

Gunn, Howard All-DAC

La Porte senior Drake Gunn and Michigan City senior Rayshon Howard have been named All-Duneland Athletic Conference boys basketball. Valparaiso senior Brandon Newman was chosen MVP. The rest of the team is: Keon Thompson, Merrillville; Jake Wadding, Chesterton; Nick Anderson, Lake Central; Nate Aerts, Valparaiso; Maurion Martin, Portage; and Elias Gerodemos and Sam Decker, Crown Point.

Slicers baseball schedule change

La Porte’s varsity baseball home game on March 28 versus South Bend Washington will now be played on March 29 at Schreiber Field at 4 p.m.

Lamberson chosen for football hall

La Porte graduate Lambert (Lamby) Lamberson will be among the Region 1 inductees to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Ceremonies will be held during a May 5 banquet at Avalon in Merrillville. Lamberson, who was named to La Porte’s Hubner Hall of Fame in 2018, is part of a group that includes Bob Bartolomeo (Andrean), Bob Mattix (Portage), Joe Sullivan (Andrean), Randy Tumblin (Portage), George Stroia (Official), Stan Dobosz and Bill Holzbach (East Chicago Roosevelt) and Frank Thomas (East Chicago Washington). Tickets ($40) can be purchased at the La Porte High School Athletics office.

Blackhawk Ballers 3-on-3 basketball tourney

Westville High School is hosting the Blackhawk Ballers 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday. This is sponsored by the high school girls basketball program. It’s a fundraiser for them. It’ll be for fourth- through 12th-grade boys and girls. They’ll also have an adult division. The cost is $75 per team and will be double elimination, so at least two games are guaranteed. A T-shirt is included. Registration forms are in the main office. Turn everything in to Mr. Goeringer. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and games start at about 8:15 a.m. For more information, contact Dale Lake at 219-608-7180.

LP Soccer Club Spring sign-ups

La Porte Soccer Club still has a few openings on the U10, U12 and U14 travel teams. LP Soccer Club is for boys and girls age U4 through U14. NWI pair tabbed Junior All-Stars

Chesterton’s Jake Wadding and Gary 21st Century’s Johnell Davis have been selected Indiana Junior All-Stars as members of the Red (North) Group. A total of 24 players were chosen with Dre Davis (Lawrence Central), Trey Galloway (Culver Academy), Jaden Ivey (Mishawaka Marian), Anthony Leal (Bloomington South), Nijel Pack (Lawrence Central) and Charlie Yoder (Westview) comprising the Core Group. The Junior All-Stars will play two games against the Kentucky Junior All-Stars, the first tentatively set for June 1 at a Kentucky site to be announced and the second on June 3 at Jeffersonville High School. The players in the Red Group will play in a June 5 game against the Indiana Seniors at a site to be announced. All three games will be doubleheaders with the 2019 Indiana girls Junior All-Stars.

Miller, Wright State play A&M

Michal Miller (Michigan City) and 13th-seeded Wright State will meet fourth-seeded Texas A&M in the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament at 3 p.m. Friday on the Aggies’ home floor in College Station. The Raiders (27-6) qualified as Horizon League Tournament champions, while A&M (24-7) earned an at-large bid out of the Southeastern Conference, where it finished third.
