Burglary Suspect Charged With Assault

Charges against a burglary suspect mounted Sunday afternoon when he assaulted police officers trying to book him in prison, according to arrest papers.. Jose Gonzalez, 40, of Taylor, said “he wasn’t going to jail” and would kill himself before going back to prison, police said Gonzalez then snapped, police say. He started punching and banging his head off the middle divider of the car while screaming, police said. When an officer tried to intervene, he kicked him in the chest, police say. Because of the uproar, Gonzalez transported him to the crisis department of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for an evaluation. There, police said he screamed curse words, spit on an officer and medical equipment and urinated on the floor. Gonzalez was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, aggravated harassment by a prisoner, resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct and institutional vandalism.
