NE Oklahoma 17, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 14
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) _ Nathan Potts kicked a 36-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and Northeastern Oklahoma State held on to defeat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 17-14 in the semifinals of the NAIA playoffs Saturday.
The victory sent Northeastern State (7-4) into the title game Dec. 2 against Central State of Ohio, a 49-21 winner over Western Montana. The site of the championship game will be announced Sunday.
Fullback Armondo Duke scored on a 24-yard run to give Northeastern State a 14-7 lead with 3:16 to play in the first quarter. Neither team scored in the second or third quarters, but the Redmen made it 17-7 on Potts’ field goal with 14:14 left in the game.
Doug Switzer, the son of Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer, completed a 49-yard TD pass to Anthony Williams with 2:25 to play, but Northeastern then ran out the clock.
Northeastern defeated UAPB (6-4) 13-12 in last year’s NAIA championship game.
