PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island School of Design has named an official from the University of North Carolina system as its new vice provost for academic affairs.

Carol Strohecker will join RISD at the end of August. She served most recently as director of UNC’s multi-campus Center for Design Innovation, whose mission is to create an environment that supports creative thinking as a catalyst for the growth of education, research and business.

Before that, Strohecker was the principal investigator for the Everyday Learning research group and one of the first researchers at the MIT-affiliated Media Lab Europe.

She holds master’s and doctorate degrees from MIT.

RISD calls her a dynamic thinker and says she has a long history of developing creative collaborations and managing complex initiatives.
