AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) _ Ajax Amsterdam clinched its 27th Dutch championship Sunday without kicking a ball.

Second-placed PSV Eindhoven (18-8-3) needed to win at Sparta Rotterdam to keep the title race alive for another week, but could only stumble to a 3-1 defeat.

Ajax has dominated the Dutch season from the start, scoring 93 goals, including at least one in all 29 games, and conceding only 14.

Although the cosmopolitan side assembled by trainer Morten Olsen has sometimes suffered inconsistency, it has lost only once all season, to PSV, and drawn just twice, with PSV and Roda JC.

Ajax stands a massive 18 points clear of PSV with only five rounds left to play in the league.

Maikel Renfurm's two strikes on 14 and 39 minutes took Sparta into a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead.

Then Arjan van der Laan set up Dennis de Nooijer for a third after the break and Sparta threatened to humiliate dethroned champion PSV.

But Belgian Luc Nilis scored a consolation goal for the Eindhoven side.

PSV still seems assured of the second Dutch place in next season's Champions League after fourth-placed Feyenoord Rotterdam lost 3-2 at next-to-bottom RKC Waalwijk in Sunday's other game.

In an open game, Dane Anders Nielsen grabbed the lead for RKC on six minutes and Argentinian Julio Cruz equalized for Feyenoord on a quarter of an hour.

In a dramatic finale, super-sub Hans van Arum leaped high to head RKC ahead from a corner with nine minutes on the clock.

Cruz equalized again for Feyenoord but Van Arum pounced once more in the dying seconds to make it 3-2 and take his side clear of the relegation places.

Feyenoord is a point behind third-placed Vitesse Arnhem, which trails PSV by seven points.
