K’s top Fuel in OT to win 4th straight
The Komets came out of Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Friday night with their winning streak having been extended to four games and, maybe, a little sizzle to the rivalry with the Indy Fuel.
Anthony Petruzzelli netted the game-winning goal in the 3-on-3 overtime by taking a cross-ice pass from Jason Binkley, faking goaltender Matt Tomkins to the ice and slipping the puck into an open net for a 3-2 victory in front of 4,860 fans in Indianapolis.
Those fans got to see some wild physical play, beginning with Indy’s Radovan Bondra sending Cody Sol face-first into the boards just 22 seconds into the game. Sol would return and Bondra would get a major penalty. It was also the first of two boarding penalties Bondra would get in the game that saw 16 penalties for 62 minutes, including misconducts for Sol and teammates Craig Cescon and All-Star Justin Hodgman.
Bondra’s second boarding call came in the second period when he sent Kevin Gibson into the boards.
Hodgman was given a fighting major and an aggressor misconduct for unleashing a flurry of punches on Indy captain Zach Miskovic, leaving his face bloodied in the second period.
Fort Wayne (20-14-1) was 0 for 4 on power plays with the Komets’ goals in regulation time coming from Binkley and Shawn Szydlowski. Indy (19-16-1) was 2 for 6 on the power play.
Notes: With Zach Fucale called up to Chicago of the AHL on Thursday, the Komets added backup goaltender Hayden Stewart.
