No one has ever lost a lead that large in a major championship. A victory would allow him to join Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as the only players in the last 30 years to have won majors in three consecutive years.

ROME (AP) — Rafael Nadal has won his ninth Italian Open, beating longtime rival Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. It was the first time in 54 meetings that Nadal won a set against Djokovic without conceding a game. Earlier today in the women’s final earlier, Karolina Pliskova captured the biggest clay-court trophy of her career by beating Johanna Konta 6-3, 6-4.
KOSICE, Slovakia (AP) — The United States beat Germany 3-1 today at the world hockey championships. Dylan Larkin scored a tiebreaking goal midway through the third period and Jack Eichel (EYE’-kul) put the Americans ahead by two goals late in the third. It’s the fifth straight win for the U.S. team in Group A since opening the tournament with a 4-1 loss to the host Slovaks.
