Suspect Arrested After Shootout

September 3, 1999

BROOKLINE, Mass. (AP) _ A Boston man suspected of killing two women in a suburban Atlanta apartment was arrested Thursday after a shootout with police.

Jason Pierce, 21, is accused of shooting his former girlfriend and her two friends who were in the Atlanta area attending college. The two friends died in the Aug. 26 shooting. The ex-girfriend, shot in the mouth, survived.

Police here met up with Pierce when they approached a parked car they believed was empty, checking it for a possible registration violation. When they got close, two men who had been lying down, sat up, said Brookline Police Chief Daniel C. O’Leary.

The car sped off. Police gave chase and when they surrounded the car, gunfire erupted.

One man got away. The other, Pierce, fired numerous shots at police before being hit in the leg, officers said.

Pierce is accused of walking into an East Point apartment and shooting at the three 18-year-old Boston women, who were best friends and high school classmates.

Patrice Lassiter was killed. Monique Brown, who was to be a freshman at Clark Atlanta University, died Wednesday morning.

The sole survivor, Shunae Allen, had been Pierce’s girlfriend. She identified the suspect, who had studied at Morris Brown College in Atlanta.
