Florida inmate dies while being treated for nausea at jail
FROSTPROOF, Fla. (AP) — A Florida inmate undergoing treatment for complaints of nausea and stomach cramps has died.
The Lakeland Ledger reports the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Monday death of 51-year-old Tyrone Shippee. His cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology report. A sheriff’s office release says Shippee was arrested last week on a charge of failing to register as a career offender.
It says he was moved Sunday to the medical dorm of a Frostproof jail for treatment. It says deputies found an unresponsive Shippee vomiting and not breathing the next night, prompting them to perform CPR and call emergency services. He was later pronounced dead.
The release says he had no visible injuries and wasn’t reported to be involved in any altercations.
