LONDON (AP) _ British actress Judy Carne, returning to Britain to appear in court on drug possession charges, was arrested by customs officials at Heathrow airport on new charges of bringing cocaine and cannabis into the country, police said Monday.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman, who spoke on condition she not be identified, said Miss Carne, 46, was arrested Sunday night after arriving on a flight from the United States.

The actress was charged under her maiden name, Joyce Bottrill, and is to appear in a London court on the new charges Friday, the spokeswoman said.

Police said Miss Carne had flown to Britain for a court appearance in her hometown of Northampton, north of London, where she was charged with possessing cocaine, cannabis and amphetamines in October. She will appear in Northampton on those charges at a later date.

Miss Carne, former wife of American actor Burt Reynolds, had been in the United States promoting her autobiography, ″Laughing On The Outside, Crying On The Inside.″

Miss Carne became well-known in the United States when she appeared in the 1960s hit television comedy series, ″Laugh-In.″
