VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ The Vancouver Canucks signed goaltender Kevin Weekes on Wednesday.

Terms of the deal were not released.

The 23-year-old, who was acquired by the Canucks last month in the Pavel Bure trade with Florida, has spent most of the season with the Detroit Vipers of the IHL. He leads the league with a 2.07 goals-against average.

Weekes was drafted 41st overall by the Florida Panthers in the 1993 NHL draft but could not reach a contract agreement with the Panthers.

He was due to join the Canucks for their game in San Jose on Wednesday night.
