CINCINNATI (AP) _ St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was released from Good Samaritan Hospital on Thursday and returned to St. Louis. He was expected to rejoin the team later this week in Colorado or early next week in San Francisco.

Coach Rene Lachemann will manage the Cardinals in La Russa's absence.

La Russa went to the hospital Wednesday after complaining of stomach problems. A team spokesman said the tests found that La Russa has nothing more severe than an irritated stomach.

La Russa, who missed both games of the Cardinals' two-game series in Cincinnati, also had tests on his stomach Monday and watched most of the Twins' game from the clubhouse in St. Louis on Tuesday.

His stomach began bothering him again Wednesday morning after the team arrived in Cincinnati, and Reds team Dr. Timothy Kremchek arranged for more tests at Good Samaritan.
