The Olive Garden in Wilkes-Barre donated food for 50 Monday to the township police department but ended up giving the food to Ruth’s Place, the homeless shelter for women.
Police declined the food offer, so the food went to Ruth’s Place, Oliver Garden Manager Ralph Metschulat said. Only six police employees were working Monday. The food donated included pasta, sausages, meatballs and bread sticks.
Darden Restaurants, which owns Olive Garden, asks its restaurants to donate food to first responders on Labor Day, Metschulat said.
